Taman Ayun Temple
Admire early, traditional Balinese architecture at the Taman Ayun Temple, which roughly translates to "the beautiful garden".
Built in the 17th century, Taman Ayun is a royal family temple of the Mengwi Empire. In fact, it is one of Bali's six royal temples, which is what makes it a national treasure and tourist hotspot.
The temple is located on a square section of land surrounded by a lake, appearing as if it's floating on the water. The complex is made up of beautiful pagodas and traditional architecture, as well as extensive, dreamy gardens where you can wander past lotus ponds and fountains.
The tiered areas of the temple represent the three layers of cosmos in Balinese Hinduism; heaven, or 'suarga', the world of man, 'buwah', and hell, 'bhur'.
The ancient mythology and breathtaking scenery at Taman Ayun make it a magical experience - definitely worth a visit!
